Halloween Is Finally Here!

halloween is pretty much my favorite holiday. dressing up, candy, i mean, can it get any better? but as much as i love it, can you believe i am not dressing up this year? i really didn't have any plans that necessitated going all out for a costume, but we are going trick or treating with some friends and their kiddos, so i am excited about that. tommy and lydia gave us a good idea for a quick costume, so we will probs do that--pictures to come!

for the past two years i've been wanting to go as a rainbow. i have it planned out every detail perfectly. maybe next year...a couple of years ago lucas and i made our own costumes. i was a taco and he was a grilled cheese sandwhich. (ironic me being mexican, and him being a white boy:). i don't want to brag, but they were pretty awesome. since i won't be wearing anything nearly as awesome this year, i thought i would round up some of my favorite costumes. here they are!

what are you dressing up as this year? hope you have a happy halloween!

New In The Store

i have been spending the past week getting ready for the etsy bazaar coming up in two weeks. i am excited because this will be my first time to have my own booth and be able to display my clothing directly in front of people. pictures are fine, but there is something to be said for being able to hold and look at a garment in your own hands.

i am also excited just because i have something new to work on. i get to figure how to arrange my booth, how to display my clothes, etc. etc. i love this kind of stuff. i even printed out my very first business cards this week! i feel very legit and profesh:) here are some pieces i have added to the store as of late. and as always, if you have questions about any piece, don't be afraid to ask!

Music To My Ears: My Playlist

i miss the days of buying music--before i had to think about saving, and debt, and my retirement. (i know i am 30, but it is just too young to think about being that old) i remember how i used to drop at least fifty bucks in one week sometimes just buying new music--CD's to be exact:) but music was really what i spent my money on, instead of clothes or food. well, i guess i spent my fair share on clothes and food too...but i digress. i found this picture on someone's facebook and thought it pretty hilar. i think i identify with it a little more than i would like:) here are a few songs that i have been loving this week.

black acid queen--menomena   this band is great, such a wide variety of sound, but still cohesive
honey bunny--girls   so catchy:)
baby shoes--bad books   love them!
see no evil--television   such great i had never heard of until last week. thanks 'parenthood!'
transmission--joy division    if you've never heard them, you need to. here's your chance.

what are you listening to?

Fill In The Blank Friday

 1.   The most selfless thing I've ever done was    get married. not the act itself, but marriage in general. i have never put myself second in the same way i have with my husband. i am not that great at it, but i love when it happens b/c it is truly an act greater than myself.

2.   When it comes to working out    a sense of dread begins to come over me. the only exercise i like is the kind you get when you don't know you're doing it, like hiking or dancing. it is and probably will always be my goal to work out more.

3.  A woman should always     realize she is loved and beautiful just the way she is:)

4. I wish I could     make beautiful music. to be able to sing, write, or play an instrument beautiful is such a gift/ blessing.

5.  A best friend is     a breath of fresh air and sense of relief:)

6.  I can't get enough of     mad men. i am late getting in on it, but i am addicted. but why does don draper have to be such a jerk?!

7.  This weekend I am  hopefully going to the dallas arboretum where there are  pumpkin displays galore and i will be able to glory in all things fall!

hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!

sofia

MOVIES PLEASE: WHAT'S OLD IS NEW AGAIN

there have been so many movies adaptations of well known books being made as of late. and well, these two movies are no exception. not only that, but they are hollywood's second go-around at turning these novels into films. let me know what you think...

BRIGHTON ROCK

i don't know how i got out of highschool without reading graham greene, but i did. add it to the long list of books i have yet to read. greene's book is the story of a sociopathic, 17 year old gang leader who marries a quiet, decent girl in order to protect his alibi in the face of murder. sounds promising, yes? :)

THE GREAT GATSBY

now this is a book i'm sure everyone had to read in highschool. i want to re-read it, because honestly, i don't remember liking it that much. but i am so looking forward to this movie. directed by baz luhrmann? i mean, come on! and starring leonardo dicaprio, carey mulligan, tobey maguire, and isla fisher. authentic vintage clothing and set. i think i've made my point:)

i have yet to see 'restless,' and it has been in the movie theatre for weeks! anyone seen it?

i had the day off last tuesday so i decided to get out and enjoy the awesome weather we've been having. there is something so satisfying about wearing a sweater and shorts at the same time:) i spent an hour or so reading at jupiter house then headed to denton thrift to do some, well, thrifting! sometimes i get caught up in having to find  a standout item for my store, and i don't end up enjoying what i'm doing. this time i just looked around for fun and ended up finding some really cute stuff. i guess that's how life kinda works:)

I AM LOVING...JEAN GRIEGE

it was so nice visiting my family this weekend. it rained like crazy the whole time, but it made our time inside very warm and cozy. we went to go see 'real steel,' which was a lot better than i thought it would be, and we ate out almost every meal, something i look forward to every time i go home. mia (my niece) and i even found enough time to carve a pumpkin:) all in all it was a pretty wonderful trip.

i came across this lovely lady's blog randomly on another blog. her name is madeline, she lives in LA (ofcourse) and she's got killer style. if you have some time on your hands, you can check out her blog here.

No Longer A Cougar

as some of you might know, lucas turned 30 last week. it's taken me a while, but here are some pics from his special day.

i asked our good friend lydia to make lucas's cake. she is super-crafty and good at baking yummy things. she did an amazing job with this cake. lucas is really into biking right now so the bicycle was the perfect touch, not to mention the york peppermint candies on top and kit kat fence!

oh yes, here it is in all it's glory. when the guy on the phone asked me what kind of bounce house i wanted i didn't hesitate to ask for spongebob.

could this little guy get any cuter? i submit that he cannot. here is lyd showing us his first little teeth.

why am i tucking in my shirt you ask?...

for this! it wasn't until later talking with someone from the party that i discovered there was a sign on the bouncehouse that specifically said, 'no flipping.' really? no flipping? come on!

everyone had a lot of fun jumping. some of the guys got a little out of control though--i was kind of worried when they started getting on top of the bouncehouse.

in addition to cake we also had caramel apples! sooo good. i was excited when i found out we had two cartons of caramel left over:)

birthdays are the best!

ps--don't forget to enter the $25 giveaway to my store. just follow or like on facebook and leave a comment!

Music To My Ears: Ryan Adams

so ryan adams is pretty much one of my favorite artists of all time. i can pick up and listen to his music at any time, which isn't the case most of the time. i often find myself really enjoying an artist for a certain period of time, but then i find myself moving on to the next thing. not the case with mr. adams.

i have been wondering when he was going to come out with his next album, and it is finally here! i took a listen to some of it online, but i think it is going to take a while to fully digest it. it sounds a little more hopeful and positive than most of his stuff in the past, which i would normally like, but i am used to the angsty, heart-wrenching ryan adams i have known for so long. we'll see...

if you would like to listen to this album, in its entirety, just visit this site on NPR, and let me know what you think!

hearts,
sofia
