as if warby parker wasn' t already awesome enough, get a load of this. they have teamed up with fashion label suno to produce the cutest line of sunglasses i have seen since tumbleweeds:)
the prints designed for suno are inspired by its founder's visits to peru, india, and kenya, where the label also produces its apparel to cultivate the local economy. enjoy the 'eye' candy!
today I am heading to wichita falls to spend thanksgiving with my family. We are probably having lunch at my parents, then will head over to my grandma's for some homemade mexican goodness--mmmm:) i am looking forward to being as lazy as possible--that includes going to see the new muppet movie! happy thanksgiving!

Chicken Noodle Soup for the Soul
so, i'm no cooking expert, but i know that when i started cooking (aka when i got married) i had no idea where to start. so i thought i would post a cooking how-to for all my fellow newbies out there. this is my first go at making chicken soup, so now i can tell all of you guys what to do and what not to do:)
here's what you will need:
2 carrots
2 stalks of celery
2 32oz. boxes of chicken stock
1/2 bag of egg noodles (8oz, aka half the bag)
3 tbsp. olive oil
1/2 onion
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. thyme
2 tsp. parsley
3. tsp. pepper
4 cloves of garlic
1 tsp. salt
1 lb. chicken
1. the first thing i found useful when making soup was making sure everything was prepped. this includes pre-cutting all of your vegetables, mincing your garlic, setting out all needed spices and other ingredients, and defrosting your chicken.
2. place large pot onto stove and turn onto medium heat. pour olive oil into pot, pour carrots, celery, onion, and garlic in pot along with 1 tsp. thyme, 2 cloves minced garlic, and 2 bay leaves and stir for 6 minutes. after six minutes pour both boxes of chicken stock into pot and stir. bring to boil.
3. while your veggies are cooking and soup is starting to boil, go ahead and start cooking your chicken by coating pan with 1 tbsp. olive oil and seasoning with 1 tsp. of parsley, 1 tsp. pepper, and 2 cloves of minced garlic. to make cooking faster i often cut chicken into thinner slices. after 5 minutes cooking on medium-medium high heat, turn chicken over for another 5-10 minutes. chicken is done when there is no pink left in the middle.
4. after chicken is done cooking remove from pan and let cool. you will need to then shred the chicken. i did this by putting chicken into a pan and using a fork to shred chicken across in a vertical direction.
5. once broth is brought to a boil, pour egg noodles in and add the remainder of your spices including parsley, pepper, salt, garlic. let cook for about 6 minutes until cooked through. reduce heat to a simmer and add shredded chicken. allow to simmer for another 5 minutes until noodles are cooked through. you can add more seasoning to taste if you wish. woolah! you have chicken noodle soup!

Music To My Ears: Lana Del Ray
the first time i heard the song 'video games' by lana del ray, i immediately liked it. i loved her voice, the lyrics, and the melody--simple. it wasn't until i started doing a little research for this post that i discovered the so-called controversy surrounding lana del ray, aka lizzie grant.
apparently lana came out with an album years back that had no commercial success and has since come back with a new sound, new look, or new gimmick, according to many music critics. i didn't think that was really anything new in the music business. katie perry anyone?
but whether or not an artist is credible, and/or is pretending to be something that they are not, it does affect my opinion of their music. should it? what do you think?
and ps--i do like katie perry:)

Beauty Post?
i have the driest skin ever. in the summertime my skin is golden, not greasy, just right. actually, i would say that it still needs a good lotioning. but in the winter my skin is downright dry. dry to the point to where little dry pieces peel off my nose (that sounded gross just typing it).
i have never really found a moisturizer that i really liked, so i decided to go another route--olive oil. i've been reading in magazines about how great of a natural moisturizer oil can be, for not only your skin, but your hair too. so for the past couple of weeks i have been slathering this stuff on all over my bod.
and the funny thing is, i think it might actually be working. i use it on my hair to calm frizz, on my skin for my ashy knees, and on my face for my peely nose. and the best part is, i feel like it's basically free because i already have it in my kitchen!
have you ever tried olive oil or any other kinds of oils for a moisturizer? what do you think? i will let you guys know if i'm still using it a week from now:)

THIS WEEK...
lately the weeks have been flying by. by the end of every week i am prety wiped out. thankfully, I usually have mondays off, and even though i am usually working on the blog or my store, it's so nice to be home by myself and just be. No rush, no meeting to be had or place to go. just me, my computer, and a cup of tea:) do you know what i mean?
this week the weather has been gorg and a half. we don't usually have a good fall here in texas. usually it's hot, cool for two weeks, then cold for the rest of the winter. but this year we are getting some good shorts with tights weather in, sans heavy jacket! my only complaint is that now it starts to get early at 5:00! seriously?! i need me some sun!
here's a little peek at my week. (starting from top left going clockwise)
1. loving being able to sip on some tea now that the weather is cooling down.
2. lucas, dressed up for a work event. i like to call him 'the other white meat.'
3. new favorite shirt!
4. naps on the couch--my favorite pair of feet:)
5. banjo keeping me company while i do laundry.
6. fall decorating, even though i really want to decorate for Christmas!
new week. new beginning... have a good one my friends!

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice
a couple of weeks ago steven, monika, lucas and I headed to the Dallas arboretum for some no holds bar pumpkin time. like a lot of different botanical gardens this time of year, the arboretum is packed full of every type of pumpkin you could imagine, with tons of intricate displays.
i had never been this time of year so I was pretty stoked to go. Even though the displays were cool and interesting, I think I had the most fun just hanging out with friends and enjoying the day outside. The weather was perrrrfect, and we brought a picnic lunch c/o jimmy johhn's and wendy's. Doesn't get much better than that:)

Miss Piggy Forever
when i was a little girl i loved miss piggy. i had a little stuffed miss piggy doll in a sparkly purple dress that i remember taking everywhere with me. i have a clear picture in my head to this day of buckling her up in the car:) if you haven't seen it yet, you have to check out instyle magazine's feature of my most favorite pig.
she is wearing a famous designer in each photo--suno, prabal gurung, jason wu, and brian atwood, in that order. the last photo is a promotional photo for a future campaign miss piggy will be doing with MAC cosmetics. i knew this miss piggy was cool, but she really took it to a whole other level this time. miss piggy forever!

This Week...
this week has been suuuper busy. i'm not exactly sure what we've been doing, but i know that a good chunk of that time was taken up getting ready for the etsy festival. i had the best intentions of getting everything ready early, but that didn't actually happen.
everything went swimmingly though, and the show was a success. it was so encouraging to have people compliment me on my store and see people fawn over the clothes. it makes me feel like i am really working towards something.
i'm a little late on this post, but i wanted to still include halloween. i wouldn't feel right if i didn't. so we'll start with that:)
first go at making cake balls. i couldn't get the chocolate to coat evenly, so they were kind of a big chocolatey mess. if any of you have any tips on how to melt chocolate please share! despite their messy appearance they were pretty delicious:)
having some halloween fun with dracula.
went trick or treating with these folks. baby beck was a bat, a sick bat, hence the poor little crying face. he still manages to look cute.
this was a very last minute costume idea, but i loved it. we are dressed up as ghostland observatory, a band we listened to all the time when we first started dating, and will always have a special place in my heart. has anyone else hear of them? they are pretty awesome.
lots of sitting on the couch watching madmen--kind of our nightly ritual.
getting ready for the bazaar.
painting my nails makes me happy:)
spent a lot of time with ariel this week. don't you wish we could all be this carefree?
at the festival. this is the view from my booth!
i hope you guys had a wonderful week. here's to making this one even better!

sofia

Shaken, Not Stirred
i don't know why, but i've had a sudden obsession with having my own little mini-bar. i mean, wouldn't it be nice to be able to offer guests a real drink? well, we decided to make my dreams a reality and took a little trip to the grocery store last week.
there'e something about going to a liquor store that makes you feel super shady. the people there were very helpful though, and we left with a pretty big bottle of amaretto, some sweet and sour mix, and grenadine.
i've already had a bar set up for a while now, complete with shaker and glasses. i still want to add some more standard liquors, and i need a stirrer. i have become all kinds of excited about learning about how to mix drinks and what goes in what. here are some pics of us making our first amaretto sours. cheers!
