MUSIC TO MY EARS

i don't know what it is lately, but every single artist i've liked lately has been local. it may have something to do with the radio station i listen to, but it makes me happy every single time i research an artist and they end up being fron the dallas area.

mara lee miller, aka bosque brown, hails from denton, tx. her 2009 release bosque brown baby includes the single, train song, my fave. i'm a sucker for a strong, soulful voice.

WHAT I WORE: RAINY DAY

when lucas and i woke up the day after valentine's we were kinda bummed. we had spent valentine's night in a hotel in downtown dallas and had taken the next day off to spend walking around the city. but when we went downstairs to the lobby it was pouring out! luckily, by the time we had finished our omelets and pancakes, the sun was a shining and the weather was per-fect. i didn't even need a jacket! now that's my kind of weather:)

i was pretty psyched because i finally got to wear two pieces that i had had in my closet for a long time, but never had the chance to wear. story of my life:) we ended up having a wonderful day. i got to explore a lot of shops that i had driven by dozens of times--posts of those to come!

MOVIES PLEASE: EAMES, THE ARCHITECT AND THE PAINTER

i have been watching a lot of documentaries lately. i like to think that watching them makes me smarter:) last week i watched a documentary documenting the life of charles and ray eames, famous for the mid-century modern 'eames chair'.

not only did i learn a lot from watching this movie, but even more importantly, i was inspired. ray and charles had a phenomenal relationship, sharpening eachother in their craft and creating world-changing art together.

the eames were surrounded by an amazing team of artists and designers who spent their day in a sort of 'warhol factory,' brainstorming and working together to make their dreams a reality. but one of the most amazing things the eames created had to be their own house. can you say dream house?

what is a movie that you have been inspired by lately?

THIS WEEK...

this week was pretty much monopolized by all the crafting i had to do to get ready for my bestie's baby shower. but not so much that lucas and i didn't make time to celebrate valentine's day:) i feel like valentine's gets a bad rap-- some see it as just another holiday to exploit consumers, or others might feel it 's a holiday only for people in a romantic relationship. and i totally see both points of view. but i prefer to look at valentine's as a day, that no matter what, you let the ones that you love know just how much you care about them. which is so hard to do every day, yet so important. and i will totally take advantage of all the candy, dinners out, and special gifts that go along with it! how can you say no to chocolate, am i right?!

i know it sounded like i was complaining earlier, but i totally loved putting together the baby shower for my friend lindsey. she is a dear friend, and even though it was a lot of work, nothing made me happier:) she wanted a tea party theme for the shower so i spend many a day perusing thrift stores on the lookout for teacups and saucers. i had a lot of help from friends, and after much pinteresting and scones gone awry, the shower was a success! i am going to miss keeping my hands busy. i love having projects to keep my hands occupied, don't you?

this week i also received my last revision from my new blog redesign. i am so excited to have it up and running this week. here is a little sneak peek!

this week i...
*felt like i was on vacation without driving more than 30 minutes from home
*ate a lot of good food--half of it i didn't know how to pronounce, i just know it made my tastebuds all high-five eachother
*hosted my first baby shower
*finished off a jar of nutella
*used my lighting equipment for the first time
*failed to reach my goal of exercising three times a week--kinda saw that one coming:)
*finally got to wear my new pink shoes
*bought a new curling iron--exciting, i know
*did yoga with my husband, pretty much the cutest thing i've ever seen:)

what did you do this week?

I LOVE COLOR

the first thing i notice about any piece of clothing is the color. color can totally make or break a work of art, the way a room is decorated, or in this case, a skirt. i love this skirt, but the color is what i like about it most, the navy, plum, taupe, and bright yellow-green thrown in for good measure:)

hope you are having a wonderful week!

sofia

HAPPY VALENTINES!

two years ago today lucas asked me to be his wife. he planned out this elaborate scavenger hunt using viewfinders to give me clues. each clue lead me to a different place--our first date, our first kiss, the place we first met. and i had no idea he was going to propose--i thought it was just something he was doing for valentine's! tricky tricky.

well i said yes, and here we are, two years later. best two years of my life!

lucas and i usually don't make a super big deal out of valentine's day--dinner somewhere nice, that kind of thing. but this year we have something super fun planned, and i am so excited! we got a groupon for a hotel in the city, so we're going to go eat somewhere fancy, get some drinks, and then go stay in our fancy hotel! the next day we're going to spend hanging out in the city, and that night we're going to see mike doughty, one of lucas's favorite singers. so fun!

i hope your valentine's is filled with plenty of love:)

hearts!
sofia

This Week...

since i did absolutely nothing last week, this week has been has been my catch-up. it killed me not to be able to hang out with friends or go to work. i never thought i would actually want to go to work.

this week lucas started p90x. i think since we are officially getting old now, being in shape has become more important. some would call it lack of motivation, but i prefer to call it being realistic--but there is no way in hades i would ever try p90x. (i bow down to any of you who has done it.) instead i am trying to eat healthy with lucas and have agreed to work out at least three times a week. so far, so good:)

here's what else has been going on this week...

*sneaking in some chips and salsa and nutella into my diet while lucas is at work:)
*craftin' it up for the baby shower i am planning for my bestie
*looking forward to valentine's day!
*had the best chinese food i've had in a long time. tofu basil and egg drop soup--mmmmmm
*started a new season of 24
*posted a schlew of new purses in the shop, yes, a schlew!

Hey Girl

i'm sure you've all seen these ryan gosling 'hey girl' pictures circulating around the internet. i think i spent a good 15 minutes looking at all of them on pinterest one day. i think they are pretty hilarious, probably because they feel like they are written with someone exactly like me in mind. so...i decided to try and write my own! here they are:)

if you were going to write your own 'hey girl' poster, what would it say?
