FLOWER POWER

this is what i wore one night hanging out at tommy and lydia's. they have house with a backyard so i took full advantage of the opportunity to be able to shoot some photos in a non-public place, aka, not my apartment. i felt bad, b/c i made them stay inside while we took the pictures, but i did catch them peeking out of their curtains a few times!

top: TheLovelyHunter
bottoms: thrifted
shoes: Esprit, TheLovelyHunter

i like this top because when you open your arms the sleeves create little wings, like you could lift off and take flight at any moment:) and it's also super loose and comfy. this top and the shoes i am wearing should be up for sale in my store soon. i have a ton of new clothes waiting to be posted, but i have been so bad about taking pictures of new stuff lately--i blame it on the heat! happy monday lovelies!

AROUND THE HOUSE: OUR DINING ROOM

ohmygoodness! i wouldn't say i have been busy lately, i would just say i feel like i have had a lack of time. does that make sense? every time i come home from being out of town i feel like i have a ton of stuff to catch up on--mostly laundry. i seriously have about 10 loads sitting on my couch right now.

our san francisco trip was so much fun. i got to catch up with old friends and show lucas my favorite places around the city. i feel like most of our trip centered around food:) but i can't help that there are so many yum places to eat in sf--we didn't even get to go to them all! yosemite was a blast too. i forgot how absolutely beautiful it is, and the weather was perfect!

and wouldn't you know it, i forgot to pack the camera battery, so half of our trip went undocumented--fail! and did i mention that i also lost my license? we were trying to buy beer at trader joe's and the cashier asked for my license, and to my dismay, it wasn't there! we had to have lucas's parents overnight it so i would have it for check-in on the returning flight. ironically, we found it under the passenger side seat after already looking there about five million times.

anywho, this post was supposed to be a little peek into our house. this is the 'dining room.'

this is an old sewing machine that lucas bought at a garage sale. i love anything mid-century modern looking like this. now if i just knew how to use the machine!

i think it's so neat how avon used to package perfumes and colognes in such a unique way. i bet you won't see any perfumes disguised as binoculars or a pipe nowadays.

this is our invisible bookshelf. originally, they were supposed to go up the entire wall, but we got kinda lazy:) if you look closely you can see lucas in the background.

we have an abundance of books at our house. if you haven't caught on by now, lucas has a little bit of a garage sale habit that translates into tons of little odds and ends that i fit in random places around the apartment.

i thought these salt and pepper shakers were so cute! i held out a long time to find the perfect pair before finally settling on purchasing these at UO.

our aunt merilyn gave us these plates for our wedding. her last name is fish so these fish-shaped plates were very fitting:)

hope you guys are having a fantastic weekend. we are planning on catching up with friends since we've been gone. what are you doing?

MOVIES PLEASE: FOR THE BOOKS

how many times have you been excited that one of your favorite books is being made into a movie only to see the movie and be super disappointed? i am hoping this is not the case with these three. if the actors and directors involved are any indication of how good the movie will be, i am expecting to be at least moderately entertained.

ON THE ROAD

i read this book under the influence of one of my ex-boyfriends who was a huge jack kerouac fan, and i'm glad i did:) the book is basically a trippy/existential chronicle of a group of young people as they travel across the country in the 1940's.

the cast  includes amy adams, kristen stewart, kirsten dunst, steve buschemi, and vigo mortensen. lesser known actor sam riley stars as the main character based on kerouac, sal paradise. i've only seen sam riley in one film called 'control,' based on the life of the lead singer of joy division, but he was excellent in it. so excited to see this movie this fall!

SWEET VALLEY HIGH

these books are near and dear to my heart. i really think i might have read every book in the series, and my mom still has most of them stored in my closet at home! the books follow twin sisters jessica and elizabeth wakefield and their experiences throughout high school.

they made the series into a tv show in the 90's but it was pretty much a bomb. screenwriter diablo cody of juno fame has already penned the script, but it is taking forever to get this movie off the ground. i don't even think they've picked a cast, but when they do, i hope they get it right! whoever is cast as jessica/elizabeth is pretty much going to make or break the movie. i love thinking of what modern day actors would be perfect to play my favorite characters in books. this site did a pretty good job of casting their picks, but i think abbie cornish would be the perfect jessica/elizabeth:)

THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

this book is one of my favorites of all time. have you ever read a book and it was perfect for the time and things that were going on in your life at that exact moment? this is this book for me. i just related to the main character charlie so much, even though he was a fifteen-year old in highschool and i was a twenty-four year old who had just moved to california.

emma watson and logan lerman are set to play the main characters, but other well known actors include nina dobrev from 'vampire diaries, kate walsh from grey's anatomy, dylon mcdermott, paul rudd, and mae whitman from the tv show parenthood.

i hope you are excited as i am about these upcoming movies. if you could pick one book to be made into a movie what would it be? and who would you pick to be in it?

Fill In The Blank Friday

i know my birthday was like a month ago, but it's still summer, so i am still celebrating my birthday season--ha! this is for all of you summer babies out there! (and if you are not a summer baby it is for you too:)

1.   My most favorite birthday was    my 7th birthday. i went to sea world and disneyworld! i mean can you really beat that? did i mention that i also got to go swimming with the dolphins as well as be serenaded by seals!?!

2.  My worst birthday was     i think my 26th? the guy i was dating was pretty much a jerk, and at the last minute he opted out of going dancing that night with me and my friends. needless to say i was pretty sad--the relationship was already going downhill and that was just one more thing that added to our eventual breakup. (praise God!)

3.  My favorite birthday memory is    again, the 7th birthday in florida. i remember going to my uncle joe's restaurant and there was a harpist there who played me happy birthday--it was dreamy:)

4.  The best birthday present I've ever received was     the bike my husband gave me last year:) he bought it at a garage sale and spent timeless hours fixing it up for me. it was supposed to be a surprise, but i kinda had a feeling what he was doing:)

5.  The  best birthday present I've ever given was    i have no idea! i really need to step up my game!

6.  Birthdays are     awesome! and pretty much an excuse for me to get to do anything i want one day (or more) out of the year:)

7.  My favorite age so far has been    30. i am more happy now than i have ever been. i am hoping my favorite age next year will be 31:)

i would love to hear about your favorite birthday memories. please share!

Dallas Will Miss You

a few weeks ago one of my favorite vintage stores in dallas closed, and i was pretty bummed. ahab bowen has been a Dallas staple for years--they have great stuff, and best of all, they aren't super expensive. so i was really sad to see them go. they did have some crazy awesome sales, so that was nice, and ofcourse i managed to come away with a few finds:) this dress is perfect for the sweltering weather we have been having. i like that it's sleeveless, so there's no chance for pit stains--ha!

On My Radar

as is the case with many artists, i had never heard of city and colour until they had released several albums. little hell, their third full-length studio album, was released this june. the band is actually only made up of dallas green, a canadian artist with a very haunting and familiar voice. i can't put my finger on it, but he sounds like someone i've heard before. i am a bigger fan of his newest album--my favorite songs are 'we found eachother in the dark' and 'silver and gold.'

as you can see, dallas is a man with many sides:) one thing is for sure though--he likes him some tattoos.

i couldn't find a video for my favorite songs, but here is one called 'the girl.' what do you think?

Hot Toddy

i feel like i complain about the weather here all the time, but holy geez, it has been so hot! i'm talking a low of 95, consecutive highs over 110 degrees hot. which makes it really hard to look cute. most of the time these days i live in my bathing suit and jogging shorts. this is what i would consider dressing up these days:)

believe it or not, i didn't have my tripod that day, so all of these pictures were shot from my camera balancing on top of a car in the parking lot!

lucas found this monkey necklace at a garage sale. i was very proud of him for knowing i would like it. it has to be made of brass or something though, because it is pretty heavy!

it was hard to get a full body shot without the tripod so this is as close as i could get:)

this is one of the rare times i straightened my hair.

i had been wanting these sunglasses for so long, and i finally got them!

top: metropark
cutoffs: forever21
necklace: thrifted
ring: anthropologie

can i tell you something embarrassing? so i was getting reading for our trip to san francisco and i called the airline to check our exact flight times. (i had accidentally deleted my online itinerary.) all i knew was that we would be leaving wednesday morning. well i'm glad i called because it turns out we are leaving next wednesday, a whole week later than i thought! i had already arranged time off work and made plans to stay with my friend that week. i felt soooo dumb having to tell them i had simply written down the wrong day on my calendar. has anything like this happened to you? if so, i would appreciate you sharing so i don't feel so bad!

san francisco will just have to wait another week:( but i hope you are having a splendid wednesday my friends:)

I AM LOVING...THESE DRESSES

if you read my last blog you will know that yesterday was lucas and i's one year anniversary! we had a lovely dinner out to celebrate. but in honor of this momentous occasion, i wanted to post some amazing vintage dresses i ran across on a site called the vintage wedding dress company. they have beautiful vintage dresses from every decade, hand-picked, in excellent condition. here are some of my favorites--it was hard to narrow it down:)

from the 1900's

1920's

1930's

1940's

1950's

1960's

1970's

aren't they beautiful? in the words of rachel zoe, 'i die.' it's so fascinating to me how much dresses could change in a matter of years, and especially from decade to decade. but then when you think about it, the same silhouettes are always being recycled. i highly recommend perusing this site. they also feature a selection of accessories and vintage inspired gowns. which are your favorite?
